Researchers recommend active screening for obesity in postmenopausal women
Weight gain and increased visceral fat contribute to issues unique to women at midlife, including vasomotor symptoms, mood disorders and sleep disturbances. Research indicates that appropriate education, treatment and support help postmenopausal women maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Polyunsaturated fats do not lower the risk of death
Research indicates that polyunsaturated fats do lower cholesterol but do not lower the number of deaths from coronary disease or any other cause. In the study, the risk of dying was 22 percent higher for every 30-point fall in cholesterol.

Women with a history of preeclampsia are more likely to face atherosclerosis
In a Rochester Epidemiology Project-based study, the artery wall thickness of women with a history of pre-eclampsia was significantly greater than that of women with normotensive pregnancies. Researchers recommend early intervention for cardiac disease risk factors.

AMUSE allows characterization of viscoelasticity
Ivan Z. Nenandic, Ph.D., discusses research in attenuation-measuring ultrasound shearwave elastography (AMUSE), a technique that independently measures both shearwave velocity and attenuation in tissue, and its application for patients with possible acute rejection of a transplanted liver.
